Slitting saws have many uses including milling slots, slitting, grooves, deep slots or cut-offs. The tools are sharpened on all three sides of the tooth. Select the largest arbor hole diameter available to maximize rigidity and minimize deflection. For example, a 1-1/4” arbor is more than twice as rigid as a 1” arbor. Select the smallest diameter which permits the greatest number of teeth to be engaged in the cut at all times. For slot and side milling cutters, select the diameter which permits no more than two teeth to be engaged in the cut at any time. Select fewer teeth for low tensile materials and heavier chip loads. Select more teeth for high tensile materials and better finishes. Super Tool’s milling cutters and slitting saw are appropriate for deep slotting due to adequate side and body clearance.
